Lamentations: Echoes of Moses

A helpful perspective in understanding Lamentations is to look at parallels with the book of Jeremiah, but also with Deuteronomy. Numerous repeated themes are evident. What becomes clear is that the nation of Judah (and of Israel as a whole) had been forewarned about the consequences of straying from the path God had laid before them. Many specific details pertaining to their ultimate downfall, seen in passages from both Lamentations and Jeremiah, had been spelled out by Moses centuries earlier.
